The DeRidder Fire Department responds to approximately 450 calls a year. Two hundred are emergency in nature and the remaining are public assistance or non-emergency calls. The department runs consist of fire suppression, rescue-extrication, standby situations, hazardous materials situations, and numerous types of public assistance. Serving the city are 18 career firefighters and a secretary to the Fire Chief utilizing three fire stations and a training center. The department also runs aid to fire protection areas outside the city. Approximate coverage area is 8 square miles while serving approximately ten thousand citizens of DeRidder. At this time, the department holds a Class 4 Insurance Rating with hopes of improvement in the near future.
Open burning within the City of DeRidder is prohibited without a burn permit. To obtain a permit please contact the Fire Chief's office. There is no charge for burn permits.
The department each year teaches fire safety to approximately 2000 school students and numerous safety classes to organizations and businesses. Along with going to the schools, the department also gives station tours to groups.
